The ability to learn and process information is manifested in everyone differently. The term disability means a physical or mental condition that can limit a person’s movement, senses, activities or understanding. The prefix ‘dis’ means not or away. Therefore, disability is not having the skill or proficiency to do a task and or understand a concept. Hence, in marriage, and families we must understand the different types of disabilities or levels or capabilities that can affect our relationships. Many times, disability may not have an ‘open presentation’, meaning not visible, but is hidden under a cloak of misunderstanding and/or unawareness.
